Elm Sun undertake a number of projects for Bid Group and this Factory in Bolton required a new loading bay and wall opening up along with new falls to the yard for access. Bid group could only install their dock leveller lift and canopy once Elm Sun had completely altered and opened up the area to very precise specifications. The project was to be completed in a live working factory environment and ensure factory operations didn’t stop.
Breaking out the existing concrete yard in order to create the right levels for wagons to access the new loading bay was the starting point to enable a previous opening to be utilised.
A small pit was required within the building’s floor slab.
Once levels and falls were confirmed and new concrete slab poured Elm Sun needed to ensure structural integrity of the existing lintel in order to open up the wall. Structural engineers were used and steels were fitted to support the wall once the brickwork was dropped.

End users were very happy with a timely and tidy completed project.
Ensuring the area was kept clean, tidy and operational, Elm Sun stripped all shuttering and flashed around the new steels and cut brickwork to create a seamless finish. With the new falls meaning a drop in level from the existing slab, Elm Sun fitted hand rails along the outside and temporary cover to the new opening ready for canopy, roller and dock leveller to be fitted.
Operational disruptions were kept to a minimum and the end users were very happy with a timely and tidy completed project.
